Prakriti Environment Society (PES) was a product of my experience as an Advocate, Healthcare provider, and fervent lover of nature. During my work managing a Polyclinic, I have witnessed certain segments of our society with no access to basic healthcare. Men, women and children suffering from afflictions and addictions due to lack of awareness, support and care. As an advocate, I was a frontline audience to social marginalisation. Be it gender, community, income and so on, the social ostracising of any single person, group or community is not only illegal but most importantly immoral and inhuman. Witnessing gruesome treatment of these people and such disregard to basic human rights was not only heart-rendering for me but also a cause for deep anguish. As an ardent proponent of nature and ecological preservation, I have witnessed how we as a society abuse our environment day in day out through littering, polluting, tree felling and so on. For me “environment” has always meant an inseparable combo human and plant life inhabiting this earth. This experience and anguish left me desperate to act; to do something to address these issues

My life as a member of a family that has been actively involved in politics also gave me exposure to the wide range of policies, efforts and initiatives that the State and Central Governments have taken from time to time to address these issues of social injustice, marginalisation, preservation and infrastructure. However, I have also witnessed that in spite of the best of intentions, there was a wide and glaring gap between objectives of these initiatives and efforts of the implementers. Bureaucracy, Red-tape, corruption, … the reasons being countless that create this gap between intention and action.

During the course of my journey as the Founding President of PES and my current role as the CEO of PES, I have realised that “Social Participation” has been the key to our success. A healthy society is a result of each and every member of the society taking responsibility to do something about it. As an organisation we can only do so much and we shall continue to do this with the same passion and commitment in the future. However, I would like to make appeal to the sense of social responsibility of each and every one of you to actively participate and do your bit towards making our society more healthy. Pick a cause, commit to it and act on it… or participate in our cause… MAKE OUR CAUSE YOURS!!!
